Velosipedska News #22 - Jordan’s First Jersey

Written by Velosipedska at 21:53 11/7-2021

Greetings to fans, press and other readers. Again, the new isn’t breaking in these press releases anymore, but Jordan Spirkoski’s YC jersey at Race of the Minuteman is still a great achievement. Keep reading for a RotM review and more!

  ---RACE NEWS---
Our young captain Jordan Spirkoski was ahead in the Monte Rosa Tour for a few stages last season, but ended up giving up the jersey to secure the GC win for Riste Nikolovski. Because of his loyalty that tour, Riste promised his full support in another race. This season, Jordan again helped Riste win in Monte Rosa, because his target was the Race of the Minuteman.
With the support of the Macedonian champion, Jordan took the youth jersey after stage three, after a 5th place in the TT and a 6th place in the first climbing stage. The final three stages weren’t easy though, since Jordan had a slight flu and had consecutive off days in the two most important stages. Despite his mediocre 14th and 16th places in the other mountain stage and final TT, Jordan held off Ciceron Guinassi from Cotopaxi, with only 5 seconds (!) separating the two youngsters in the end. We might see these two battling it out in tours for a few more years, but Spirkoski prevailed in the USA.
Jordan is the 2d Macedonian to win a tour jersey, after Riste won the Odyssey of the Oryx YC and the Monte Rosa GC (2x).

Apart from the American tour, Jordan has not been able to enjoy his most recent spell of races. He crashed in both Dushanbe - Turkestanskiy Khrebet and Krong Doun Kaev - Phnom Bokor, so it was clearly time for a long break. Both Spirkoski and Nikolovski are now recharging their energy for the next season. Riste will start racing around day 75, but Jordan will probably not join us on the road again this season.

In the meantime, our riders have been captainless in their most recent races. Jovan Georgievski has finished 9th in Climbs of Peta, and Eftim Nastevski will try his luck at the Norwegian Classic Oslo, in which he came 11th in S55. The youngsters we are about to discuss in the next section will be racing for experience in breakaways a lot in the next few races. So, not much race news for now, our main targets of the season are over. A win or podium place from the other riders would be great, but we are mainly racing to learn in the latter parts of the season.

  ---RIDER NEWS---
Gjorgji Najdoski, Leco Vasilevski and Stojance Meglenski have all graduated from the Velosipedska academy. Gjorgji is a talented climber, who’s potentials are probably not at their max yet. He will likely learn a lot more during the races. Leco is also a rider for the mountains, and probably the strongest helper in mountainous and hilly terrain out of the three. Stojance is mainly interested in the climbs, but has shown a lot of potential in time trials as well. He will be a tour teammate, but he’ll be allowed to go for broke in time trials. He might enter the same TT specialist program at the academy at a later date, like his captains have done before him.

seems to have some growth potential left, but won’t participate in dedicated training sessions anymore, since we think he will benefit most from race experience. Leco and Stojance have both finished their climber training programs, but will remain in the academy to improve other skills. Leco will soon try to improve on the flats, Stojance could become a solid climbing time trialist.

Perica Gancev and Goce Bisevac are still around for about a week, but as discussed in the previous news post, they will join Peak Cycling and Alpinisti na Ohrid respectively. They might join us for one or two races before that, so be sure to give them a lovely goodbye if you spot them on the road.

A few milestones to round up this newsletter:
Jordan Spirkoski is the 4th rider to achieve 3 results for the team, after Riste Nikolovski (32), Metodija Aksentiev (10) and trainer Gjorgi Beqiri (4).
Jordan Spirkoski (115 pts) has also become the 4th rider to gain 100 points for the team, ahead of Riste Nikolovski, Metodija Aksentiev and Jovan Georgievski.
Jordan Spirkoski has also become the 5th rider to reach 20 international caps for Macedonia. Out of these 5, 3 riders have come from the Velosipedska academy.
Eftim Nastevski (96) is close to 100 appearances, with #97 and #98 already scheduled. He will become the 4th Velosipedska rider to achieve this, Riste Nikolovski leads the all-time apps list for the team with 135 races under his belt.
[rtider]1171563[/rider] is one of those 5 riders as well, the Navarone Cycling Team rider has 29 caps and can become the second rider with 30 national caps, behind record holder Riste Nikolovski (32 caps).

Kind regards and thanks for reading,

Oh yeah, I trained those three myself. If you mean the other 2 (Perica Gancev and Goce Bisevac), they are going to other teams, I'm training Bisevac because the other team asked me to start - he's paying for that eventually ;)
I probably won't train rider I really can't use either.

Universal Soup at 10:24 13/7-2021
Ah. Yeah I know the feeling about needing helpers. I would only train them for myself though and not just the NT hehe.

  Thanks guys!
Najdoski is not maxed, the others are. I'm expecting Najdoski to get quite a bit of training points. None of them are great, but I needed CL Macedonian fillers. Let's see if they are worth it in the long run!

Universal Soup at 05:37 13/7-2021
Nice overview. Will probably see you again in RotM I suppose. Are the academy riders mentioned maxed?
